Why We’re Different
At Roper’s Boxers we do things a bit differently than many breeders. We don’t keep our dogs in individual kennels & we don’t believe that any dog should live their life in a concrete or gravel pen by themselves. You won’t find one of our dogs confined to a small pen without room to run & play on grass or turf. Boxers don’t do well with extreme temperatures so we built a room for ours in the spring of 2013 by enclosing a covered patio right off of our living room. We added duct work from our main HVAC unit to the room so they enjoy the same inside temperatures that we do while also having 24/7 access to our back yard through a doggie door. There are 4 separate areas in their room; one for the main pack with access to the big back yard, one where we can keep girls that are in heat & need to be kept away from the boys, & 2 for mommas with puppies. These areas allow them to see & interact with the pack but also have their own doggie doors & yards with 24/7 access. The puppy yards have veterinary grade turf so we can keep them 100% disinfected. These spaces allow our puppies to start using a doggie door very early on & they are completely doggie door trained when confined to a small area by the time we send them home.
We are very picky when choosing a dog to add to our family & breeding program. We look for healthy dogs with a calm temperament & a very specific look that we like. We do not like overly hyper boxers & will not breed one that is not intelligent & trainable. Some have asked about health testing. We’ve never done this in the past because through our selection process & the veterinary care we provide we have been confident that we are producing healthy puppies. As we add to our pack there will be some of our dogs that do have varying levels of health testing, such as our male JJ, who has been tested as negative & not carrying the genes for both ARVC & DM, meaning he cannot produce puppies that will be affected with either of these common boxer ailments. We strive to produce beautiful, smart, healthy puppies that will be members of your family for years to come. You can keep up with what’s going on or see current & previous puppies on our Facebook page.
